Lonely People

In their iconic 60’s song, “Eleanor Rigby” (1966), the Beatles sang these lines…
Father McKenzie, writing the words
Of a sermon that no one will hear
No one comes near
Look at him working, darning his socks
In the night when there’s nobody there
What does he care
All the lonely people
Where do they all come from? All the lonely people
Where do they all belong?

It is no surprise to remind you that our world is filled with lonely people. Might I remind you that God is fully aware of the loneliness everyone feels (Psa. 139:23). But God has planned for us not to be alone. Consider God’s declaration in Genesis 1:26. Jesus also, reminded His disciples (and us) that He will always be with them (Matt. 28:20) God also promises us that He will never leave us or forsake us (Heb. 13:5).

When loneliness engulfs us we should remember who we have and the relationship we have with God Himself (Jn. 15:1-9). Another thing we can do is to seek out godly companionship and friends (cf. Pro. 18:24b). May God strengthen and comfort all of you that might be feeling the pain of loneliness. Take comfort also from Peter’s advice to cast your anxiety on God because He cares for you (1 Pet. 5:7).

Love you all, Darroll
